new floors downstairs

<< View from the front door about a week ago. About rock bottom as far as the living situation goes. Nothing downstairs (= no kitchen); but just for a few days, while we put in the new floors!

The kitchen (left picture & vertical boards in right picture) is quarter-sawn sycamore with walnut pegs (look closely at the image on the right). The new dining room is oak (far right) made to match the original hardwoods in the rest of the house, which were, we have now found out, a mix of white oak, red oak, and maple... The entire first floor is now refinished.

The final coat goes on today, then we can walk in our house tomorrow. From there on, it only gets better. Up next: kitchen cabinets and appliances (the fridge is currently in the bathroom), then paint & trim.

Master Bathroom Vanity

    Pretty impressed with my husband (as always!) for making this awesome   one-piece concrete vanity top & built-in round sink for our bathroom. It still                         needs to be polished and sealed, but it looks awesome.

Master Bathroom In Progress

For the master bathroom shower, we picked three totally different tiles. The predominant one is ceramic; that is what the floors in the bathroom will also be. The shower floor is river pebble tile - feels good on the feet!
The accent tile is called 'Portoro' - its actually a limestone - apparently rare - we got it as remnants. Maybe Spanish, maybe Italian, dont know...

Siding

 

Spent the weekend putting siding up on the street side of the house. Notice the 10" trim along the top - right now its the same color (a beautiful shade of Primer) as the siding, but it will be painted differently when its all said and done.

Above the band will be shake cedar shingles. The siding itself will be painted the same color that the existing siding is (the teal shutters are coming down!).
